Here’s why you should make a day of it when you join us at Blickling for THE QUEENMAKER

Our new game, THE QUEENMAKER, has been running at Blickling Church for a few weekends now and has seen many teams enjoying this unique escape game experience, with most finding success in their attempts to get Anne Boleyn to the throne and walk away with winners badges.

This game is the world’s first escape game in a working church, using a number of fiendish puzzles and innovative contraptions, all based on real-life details, to help bring to life Anne Boleyn’s journey to the throne. In the very church where the real-life Anne Boleyn worshipped as a girl, you must use all your guile and cunning to overcome the many obstacles in your path and help get your daughter Anne to the altar, as the bride of King Henry the Eighth, all within an hour.

The game is also a partnership with the Diocese of Norwich, where profits from the game will go towards restoration of the beautiful church. We can’t wait to welcome more teams at this location, but we’re not the only reason to make a trip, so here are some of our recommendations for making a day of it when you come to play THE QUEENMAKER.

It’s very rare to have an escape game venue surrounded by so much open space, with a field of friendly cows to one side of the church and the expansive Blickling estate on the other. Blickling Hall is an incredibly popular National Trust building, famous for being the residence of our games protagonist, Anne Boleyn. She is even said to haunt the building, where a headless figure is seen on the anniversary of her execution.

At the hall there is lots to see and do, including themed tours, an insight into the building’s conservation and the opportunity to explore some of the Blickling collection of historic objects. The estate also hosts large events most weekends, including The Proms and Classic Ibiza concerts this summer and upcoming Film Festivals and winter fayres. You could easily fill the day walking around the estates impressive grounds and gardens so do leave time for a visit whilst you’re with us.

Just a two minute walk from our game you will find the welcoming pub, The Buckinghamshire Arms, the perfect spot for refuelling and a debrief after your game. It’s also where the History Mystery team came up with some of the best ideas for THE QUEENMAKER. This traditional 17th Century pub, in a former coaching inn, has a fantastic menu and is the best spot for toasting a win or poking fun at who could have been a little quicker in their efforts; all over your favourite tipple.

With Biddy’s Team Rooms just a stone’s throw from our Guildhall location in the Norwich Lanes, you’ll be glad to hear you’ll also be able to enjoy tea and cake at their sister venue, Biddy’s Kitchen in the lovely market town of Aylsham, which neighbours Blickling. Here you’ll find a menu of sweet treats and daily specials in an eclectic setting. The town also hosts farmers markets and fairs most weekends.

So our new escape game isn’t the only reason to make the trip to Blickling, where you’ll happily be able to fill your day with these highlights.

THE QUEENMAKER runs at Blickling church every Saturday and Sunday, with games for 3 – 10 players starting at 10am and last games at 6.15pm. Walk-in discounts may be available. To book your escape game click the image below.
